Virtual and augmented realty have focused the welding transfer of technology day held in Colombia.

Systems from Spain, USA and Austria were shown up to Mechatronics university students and teachers from the Universidad Tecnológica de Pereira (UTP) and the National Training Service (Servicio Nacional de Aprendizaje – SENA).

This activity took place in the regional headquarters of the SENA and is part of a national program on technology transfer called Simulators Technology, powered with virtual and augmented reality and focused on welding.

Seabery took part in this transfer showing up Soldamatic and the Augmented Training methodology, and after the presentation performed by Arión Ríos, teachers and students tried this edtech solution in the practice.

According to SENA, it was very well received by the assistants. In fact, one of the students, 19-year-old Luis Eduardo Cruz stated after his experience: “With augmented reality one can improve welding speed, the working angle without being exposed to the hazards of traditional welding. With this method, you learn and see the improvements and the most important benefit is that it helps us to have more practice time”.

The president of the welding board and teacher of the UTP Alberto Zapata admitted that: “these are cutting edge technologies that have made the training process more flexible. The idea is let entrepreneurs, instructors and trainees know about them, for them to provide feedback to the welding board about the advantages of these educational support, to evaluate their use in welding training programs”.
